Through their talent and hard work, the Chieftains revitalized and popularized traditional Irish music in the last quarter of the 20th century. This collection of early Chieftains recordings highlights some of the legendary group's finest work.
Michael Tubridy's flute playing on the two reels "The Musical Priest" and "The Queen of May" is as virtuoso as any of his contemporaries. Founding member Paddy Maloney shines throughout all 12 tracks. His compositions "The Morning Dew" and "Samhradh, Samhradh" (Summertime, Summertime) stand up well alongside works by such great Celtic composers as Ruari Dall O Cathain, Sean O Riada, and Toirdhealbeach O Caerarbhallain--tunesmiths whose music makes this CD a thoroughbred collection of Irish music.
