An Irishman by heritage, Bing Crosby always had a special place in his heart for Irish music, recording much of it over the course of his career. The tunes collected here cover a wide expanse of years, from 1938 to 1966, and are mostly from live radio broadcasts.
The first three tracks, recorded for a Dublin TV show that gives this disc its name, were previously unreleased, and will be strong bait for Crosby collectors. We're not talking the Chieftains here; there's nary a bodhran or pennywhistle to be found, and the selections stick to popular chestnuts such as "MacNamara's Band" and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling." However, the orchestra-backed, pop-friendly selections to which Crosby lends his mellifluous voice bear an unmistakable emotional commitment that shows the singer's genuine passion for the land of his ancestors.
