This collection not only provides a cross-section sampling of many of the best traditional Irish folk performers from the past quarter-century, but a bit of a history lesson as well. The theme of this album is Irish immigration to America: the hope, joy, sadness and frustration that have always been part of the Irish-American experience. Songs are sung in the ancient Gaelic language (Voice Squad's "A Stor mo Chroi") and English (Cathie Ryan's delicate yet earthy "Erin's Lovely Home"). The music reflects the various styles of Irish folk, from the more traditional instrumentation and approach utilized by The Boys of the Lough and Planxty to the smoother style of De Dannan and Dolores Keane.
